HTC Smart or Dummed Down?

HTC SmartThe HTC Smart is one of first mobile phones made by HTC that isn’t a smartphone in the traditional sense. Sure, it has many of the same features as a typical smartphone like the Hero, but it runs on a different operating system. The Smart runs on the Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform just like some of AT&T’s phones, less impressive phones. The Smart has decent specs.

Customers who purchase this handset will get the benefit of a 2.8 inch resistive display, which is admittedly pretty small and a QWERTY keyboard. Owners of the Smart will have the benefit HTML browsing. They will be able to check and send email as well as keep up with their favorite celebs, family and friends on Twitter.

The HTC Smart comes with 256 MB of RAM and ROM. Users will be able to take photographs with the phones 3.0 megapixel camera. At 3.0 megapixels, the camera is not bad but it’s not great either. It’s probably just right for the price of the phone.

The Smart is a Euro-friendly 3G handset and utilizes Quadband EDGE technology. The mobile’s processor speed is 300MHz, which is not really fast at all and its RAM is average. It has a built in memory of 256 MB. However, more memory can be added via the phone’s MicroSD slot.  There has been no mention of GPS or Wi-Fi. As a result, there is an assumption that they won’t be added, though this may not necessarily be the case.

The HTC Smart should reach Europe and Asia in the Spring (2010). Though no price has been set, this phone is expected to be priced quite affordably. The rumored specs speak to this assumption. It simply isn’t possible, or at least it would not make good business sense to price this handset expensively. The specs and features simply wouldn’t support it. There are too many good phones on the market at the higher price points that the Smart wouldn’t be able to compete against so we should be able to look forward to some excellent HTC Smart deals come Spring time.
