Android Fans Hope for HTC Vision

Tech website Engadget has shown off a few teasers of a leaked web document which gave out three new names of HTC handsets: the Vision, LED and Glacier. It is impressive, but so far, the details are mostly lacking –with the exception of the Vision. It seems like a Dutch site has been able to scoop out the details on this upcoming HTC Android smart phone.

So what’s the deal? Rumors are saying that the HTC Vision is practically the HTC Desire with a slide out keyboard. It was already impressive to see the Wildfire –which is basically a Desire Mini smart phone. The Vision on the other hand, will be delivering the full Desire experience, but with the addition of the full, slide out, QWERTY keyboard.

For quite some time, people have been hoping for QWERTY keyboard on any of HTC’s impressive handsets. But since the initial rumors of the HTC Lancaster (which is basically the HTC Magic with a keyboard), nobody ever gave much hope that the Taiwanese manufacturer would be fulfilling any keyboard wishes. Now, it seems that there is a reason to hope once again as the Vision could potentially be the phone that everyone has been hoping for.

Specs wise, the phone is pretty predictable. As a clone of the Desire, the Vision is slated to have similar hardware. Expect to see the Snapdragon 1 GHz CPU, the 5 mega pixel snapper and of course, the 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen display. For now, the Desire is still limited to the Android version 2.1 Éclair; though an update to the Flash capable 2.2 Froyo is expected sometime within the next few weeks.

Details on the two other Android devices; LED and Glacier are still unknown at the moment. Sadly, with HTC’s track record of scrapping planned devices (like some of the devices shown at the leaked HTC Roadmap last year) it is highly possible that we never see these devices ever sold on shelves.

Users of Android mobile phones designed by HTC can start jubilating as information reaching us shows that the company has just upgraded the HTC synchronization for the HTC Magic, HTC Hero and HTC Tattoo. This update will help increase connectivity with PC’s for users of HTC phones. There is a likelihood that this new software version arises to confirm that Android users can connect their mobile phones to a computer running Microsoft’s Windows Operating System.

There is an array of useful new features that the HTC Sync Version 2.0.8 brings to the table for owners of HTC magic, Hero or tattoo. HTC confirms that the update was released for owners of one of the three devices from the company and is geared at empowering them to enjoy an enhanced user experience.

Below are the release notes;

- This update for HTC Sync provides more connectivity between your HTC Phone and PC. Still providing synchronization between your Outlook and your HTC Phone, we’ve added in media enhancements, syncing your contacts pictures along with their contact information.

- Syncing now also syncs your HTC Phone’s time with your PC’s time and vice versa, providing the most accurate time for you, wherever, or whenever, you are.

- Sync your phone with ease. Just plug in your HTC phone to your PC using a Mini (Or Micro) USB cable and watch as HTC Sync displays your model name and starts to sync your information for you.

This new software requires a PC with processor speed of 1Ghz or more, 512MBB of ram or Higher, Video Adaptor with a VGA of 800 x 600. Also 59MB of hard disk is required and a USB 2.0 port to attach the device.

Ah, Google, is there anything you can’t do. Well, you probably couldn’t sort out our terrible financial situation, tidy our festering offices, or make the pretty barmaid in the local look at us with anything less than an unconcealed snarl. However, we forgive you, because there are so many things you can actually do that make us love you. And now you come in phone-sized packages and it makes us love you all the more. Fair enough, the G1 has been out for a while now, but that was kind of clunky and, well, clunky, so we’re happy to ignore that. But now we have the shiny new HTC Magic to play with you on, and it makes us giddy.

Giddy because, according to the HTC Official page, we can use you to …”find the coolest café in your city right from your Home screen with Google Search. Take a virtual tour of Barcelona with 360º panoramas using Google Maps with Street View. Or start up Google Talk to chat with your friend about the music video you just saw on YouTube…”

Erm, right, yeah, no. Giddy more because we can use the HTC Magic to find out how late the nearest pub in the city we never leave is open, take a virtual tour of the area surrounding the pub using Street View to find a decent looking kebab house then fail to convince the barmaid that we’re far better company on Google Chat than we are in real life. But anyway you get the idea, it’s everything that Google do well, on a phone. And, now without the G1′s kind of pointless keyboard, all delivered to you in a slim, lightweight format.
